Inauguration and reception
VILLUM Investigator Grants Inauguration and reception
We are pleased to invite you to the inauguration of:
AMSTRAD - Architected Materials and Structures with Randomness And Defects
– Lead by Ole Sigmund
Nature exhibits plethora of random structures withremarkable properties, whereas man-made materials aremostly periodic. On the other hand, manufacturing errorsdestroy periodicity of otherwise perfect designs. So what isoptimal? Order or disorder? And how does the answerdepend on physics, objective functions and manufacturingprocesses?
MicroAM - Microstructural engineering of additive manufactured metals
– Lead by Dorte Juul Jensen
Additive Manufacturing (AM) is at present revolutionizing metal manufacturing, butthe huge potential of microstructural engineering, used for decades in conventionalmanufacturing, has not been systematically explored for AM. This opens newpossibilities, but a challenge will be how to include defects typical for AM, namelyvoids and local stresses, and thus lay the foundation for design of AM-defect tolerantmicrostructures.
For those interested in seeing the experimental equipment, we will start with a tour to the Powder and Additive Manufacturing laboratories in Building 427, main entrance at 13:00.
