The PhD, "Modelling the pultrusion process of off shore wind turbines blades" dealt with numerical modelling of pultrusion, a very efficient manufacturing process for producing profiles of composite materials. The prize from ESAFORM, European Scientific Association for Material Forming, is very prestigious and also consists of 2000 Euro.
Ismet Baran's PhD has contributed substantially to the thermomechanical modelling of the process and made way for process optimization based on numerical methods. The PhD was carried out at DTU Mechanical Engineering with Professor Jesper Hattel as principal supervisor.
