Corrosion Labs

The labs promote innovation across diverse research areas, including electrochemical degradation of coatings, reliability of electronics, renewable energy, drinking water and environmental safety and Power-to-X reliability.

Corrosion on wind turbines after 30 years of service.

The Corrosion Labs possess:

  • Electrochemical and microelectrochemical characterization equipment using Tafel analysis, EIS and potentiodynamic polarization
  • Tribocorrosion testing setups for evaluating sliding wear under corrosive conditions
  • Metal release analysis equipment as inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) and ion chromatography (IC)
  • Climatic and gaseous exposure setups, including corrosive gases, salt spray, humidity chamber testing
  • Facilities for investigating high temperature and molten salt corrosion supporting the development of energy storage and small modular nuclear reactors
