Surface Engineering & Heat Treatment Labs

Surface engineering by thermochemical and electrochemical processing of materials promotes innovation within aesthetic, decorative and functional coatings as well as enhancing the durability for materials used in harsh conditions.

Electroplating set-up.

The Surface Engineering & Heat Treatment labs have the following equipment:

  • A unique suite of custom-built furnaces for the investigation of the interaction of metals with reactive gases for research and innovation activities in thermochemical surface engineering and high temperature corrosion
  • High-temperature furnaces up to 1700 °C for long-term experiments in controlled atmospheres
  • A wide range of cleaning, pretreatment and plating processes suitable for both miniature samples and large-scale applications. The techniques available include electroless & electroplating, anodization, and electroforming.
